Hiking Trails around Rocky Butte are currently unofficial.

The Friends of Rocky Butte are currently pursuing ways to make hiking on the eastern slope publicly accessible.

There are many “Desire Trails” which are unplanned footpaths caused by human or animals traffic. Urban hikes intersect with people living outside and you may feel more comfortable to walk with a partner and/or dog. Please park only on public streets and stay off private property. Leave no trace and have fun.

The Old Rocky Butte Quarry is unique urban crag located in NE Portland provides roadside rock climbing opportunities for people of all age groups. It is a north facing bluff that overlooks a distant Columbia River. The main cliff is extensive and tall and is ideal for rappelling, top-roping, or lead climbing. “Strong-hearts” have been climbing the area for many decades.
